Spotlight on Child Wellbeing and Protection

The safeguarding of children is everyone’s responsibility, particularly when it comes to protecting children from abuse. Everyone in Glenrothes Amateur Swimming Club (GASC) – administrator, club official, coach, parent, friend, children themselves, everyone – can help.

Our Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer

Anna Tizzard’s involvement with GASC started in 1989. Anna was a swimmer and was one of eleven swimmers from GASC who competed in the Paralympic Games across the 1980-1990’s. She competed internationally for ten years and was selected for three Paralympics Games. Her final international was in Atlanta 1996 when both Paul Noble, also from GASC, and Anna were the Team Captains for Great Britain. Following her swimming career Anna became a level 3 coach and coached at Scottish level for Scottish Disability Sport and Disability Sport Fife. She has been the GASC Child Well-being and Protection Officer since 2009. You can find out more about Anna’s swimming success at in her interview on the club website.

Recruiting and Training Volunteers

Currently there are just under 50 active Volunteers doing a regulated role in the swimming club. All Volunteers have been enrolled with Scottish Swimming and undergone their Protection of Vulnerable Groups check. Everyone in this role is required to complete Child Well-being and Protection in Sport training every three years. This training gives them the basic knowledge about safeguarding and how to identify and report concerns.

Incidents /Concerns

When incidents or concerns occur it is the role of the Child Well-being and Protection Officer to support the club members to find resolution and implement changes if required. All matters are dealt with confidentially, only those people who need to know and can help in managing the concern will be involved.

Any Concerns?

If you have any concerns about the welfare of a member of Glenrothes Swimming Club, please contact Anna Tizzard, the Child Well-being and Protection Officer as soon as possible on 07352346853 or GASCCWPO@yahoo.com

Swimmer Survey - Open now!

GASC is keen to get the swimmers' views on their experience within the club. This will help the club to identify what is going well and what can be improved from the swimmers’ point of view. The survey is open now at: GASC Swimmer Survey

If you are the parent or carer for one of our younger swimmers please help them to fill out the survey. We really want to hear from swimmers of all ages and across all squads.

Swimmers can answer as many or as few questions as they want. Most questions are multiple choice but have the option to add feedback. The survey will close on Sunday 20th April, and we will share the results with swimmers and parents / carers after that.

For parents and carers who also want to share their views please watch out for our parent / carer survey that will follow after the swimmer survey closes.

Our club needs you!

Have you ever fancied a bit of commentating?

Our Club President, Duncan, also takes up the role of commentating for our in-house club events, as well as our annual Spring Meet. He's on the look out for someone to support him in this role. If you're keen to give it a go, please reach out to Duncan at duncansimpson.gasc@gmail.com.

Fundraising Update!

Our recent Spring Gala fundraising total was a fantastic £1,461 plus £1,200 from spectators making a grant total of £2,661 for the club! A huge thank you to Lynette for organising the range of fundraising acitivities and to everyone who donated tombola prizes, bottles and cakes. The ducks were a huge success and I'm sure they'll be back for more fun in the future!

Our monthly cake and candy stall has been popular so far. Another £228 has been added to the fundraising pot from cake sales this year! Amazing effort from our bakers and cake munchers - thank you!

All fundraising activities support the running of the club and help to keep fees as low as possible for our members.
